“God’s Comfort in the Crush of Conflict & Confusion” (Isaiah 40)

FOCUS

So much of what advertisers are trying to sell isn’t so much a product as it is an experience. They’re wanting us to attach something positive emotionally or experientially far beyond what the item itself may be. Often one of the biggest selling points that gets promoted is the comfort it will bring with itself.

It’s interesting to note that the NIV heads Isaiah chapter 40 with this title: Comfort for God’s People. It’s important to note this isn’t God trying to sell us something. He is showing & promising us Himself. All of us long for Him. Each of us needs Him. Everyone can know God’s peaceful & protective comfort.

May this message strengthen your heart & bring you that which God desires to have … Himself & His comfort.

God’s Comfort …

1. comes from God Himself bringing what only He can give.

This is written to people desperate for comfort & longing for encouragement.

Isaiah 40:1-17

2. calls us to remember & receive His strength & power.

We will soar like eagles, run without growing weary & walk without fainting.

Isaiah 40:18-31

Making It Real

1] How does knowing only God can provide our greatest needs point you to Him?

2] In what ways have you experienced soaring on wings like eagles,

running & not growing weary, walking & not being faint?

Action Step

Memorize Isaiah 40:31. Ask God to make it your experience for His glory.
